Pyramid Performance & Health offers performance, fitness and  rehabilitation under one roof to provide athletes, fitness enthusiasts, weekend warriors and novices alike a complete solution for all training, fitness and health needs.

By no means just for the elite, one of our primary aims is to professionalise amateur sport and fitness. Our staff’s extensive knowledge and experience teamed with our World-class facilities and equipment allow us to offer unrivalled quality in training programming, injury rehabilitation and sport-specific performance testing.

Located just outside East Bridgford in Nottinghamshire, our home comprises three areas:

The Fitness & Performance Gym offers an innovative strength and conditioning space for one-to-one and group-based training, complete with an indoor turf space for functional fitness.

The Endurance and Rehabilitation Studios are equipped to the highest standard with specialist equipment for private training, rehabilitation, testing and consulting including Wattbikes, Hypoxico Altitude Generator, blood flow restriction (BFR) rehab tools, plus lactate threshold testing equipment and more.

Who Are We?

Ryan Spencer, Founder & Director of Performance & Rehabilitation

Ryan founded Pyramid Performance & Health in January 2017, following extensive experience and success working with athletes in the United States at the IRONMAN Sports Medicine Institute. This sewed the seed for Pyramid Performance & Health. Having developed innovative strength & conditioning programmes, sport-specific biomechanical movement analyses, performance testing protocols, and unique injury rehabilitation models alongside some of the country’s best physios, Ryan wanted to provide this and more to athletes and active people of all abilities in the UK.

Holding two degrees including a Masters in Sport & Exercise Biomechanics, plus extensive experience working in elite sport with professional athletes competing in English football, IRONMAN Triathlon, the NFL, NBA and MLB to name but a few,  Ryan is a leader in the field of applied sport science in the East Midlands. Ryan offers strength & conditioning, advanced injury rehabilitation, and performance testing services.

Mary Cooper, Fitness & Rehabilitation Specialist

Mary operates out of both our main centre in East Bridgford and with our partners at Oakwood Wellness Centre in Bingham. Mary is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and holds a Masters degree in Sports Science from Nottingham Trent University, as well as an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from West Virginia Wesleyan University in America.

Outside of her studies Mary has played football at the highest level, achieving All-American honors in America and winning the BUCS National Cup with Nottingham Trent University. Her previous experience in performance, fitness and rehabilitation includes time spent working at the IRONMAN Sports Medicine Institute in Houston, Texas, assisting with performance testing and rehabilitation. Mary has also worked as a physiotherapy aide in Pittsburgh, and has a keen interest in sports injury rehabilitation. Mary offers personal/group fitness sessions, in addition to personal injury rehabilitation programmes.

Holly Calver, Fitness & Rehabilitation Specialist/Sports Therapist

Holly is a highly skilled and experienced Sports Therapist with a particular interest in holistic rehabilitation, incorporating manual therapy, exercise therapy, physical conditioning and sports massage to achieve long-term positive outcomes for clients. Holly holds an MSc in Sport Therapy from the University of Lincoln after originally qualifying with a BSc (hons) in Zoology from the University of Sheffield.

A keen sportswoman, a past injury and subsequent recovery led to her specific interest in rehabilitation. Since qualifying she has worked alongside the head physiotherapist at Nottingham Rugby and continues to provide pitch-side first aid and sport therapy for local and regional rugby union leagues. She has worked closely with individuals from a variety of backgrounds from professional athletes to active individuals in a variety of settings including large scale sporting events and musical theatre, utilising exercise rehabilitation and manual therapy to optimise performance and return injured athletes to their sport.

Holly’s personal interests began with Netball where she represented Nottinghamshire County then University of Sheffield in BUCS. She now enjoys weightlifting, running and CrossFit.

Holly offers injury rehabilitation programmes, personal/group fitness coaching and sports massage/manual therapy treatments.

Josh Spencer, Personal Trainer/Fitness Specialist

Josh holds a Sports Science degree and is experienced in fitness coaching for individuals, groups and teams. He has completed REPS accredited educational training in hypoxia (altitude training) at the Altitude Centre, giving him unique expertise to construct and carry out personal programmes at altitude. These sessions can range from performance training, to general fitness and weight loss, to specific health needs. 

Josh also brings experience in delivery of junior football performance training camps, with vast experience in football in both a professional and playing capacity both in the UK and USA. He’s played for Boston United, West Virginia Wesleyan University, Lionsbridge FC and currently Grantham Town FC, and is actively involved in youth development with a variety of clubs and organisations.

Sam Barrows, Nutritionist

Alongside his consultancy work at Pyramid, Sam also currently holds the position of Performance Nutritionist at Derby County FC.

Sam first developed an interest in nutrition by wanting to improve his own sporting performance. This led him to pursue a career in performance nutrition by completing a Sports Science degree and a Masters degree in Sports Nutrition. He also holds Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register Accreditation, International Society of Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK) accreditation, and is a UK Anti-Doping Advisor.

Sam has supported elite and amateur athletes, everyday gym goers and individuals who just want to improve their health and body composition. To date, Sam has worked with athletes from a wide range of sports including motorsport, football, rugby, cricket, weightlifting and combat sports.

Using a food-first approach Sam is passionate about and strongly believes in a scientifically informed and evidence-based approach when working with all clients. Translating often complex scientific research and implementing it in a sustainable and practical manner, while helping people become the best version of themselves is of primary importance to Sam. Sam offers individual nutrition consulting, group education and performance nutrition packages for all ages and abilities.
