By no means just for the elite, one of our primary aims is to professionalise amateur sport and fitness. Our team’s extensive knowledge, experience and collaborative approach, teamed with our World-class facilities and technology, allows us to offer unrivalled provision of human performance, rehabilitation and wellbeing support services.

Located just outside the beautiful rural village of East Bridgford in Nottinghamshire, our main centre houses three areas:

Offering an innovative strength and conditioning space for one-to-one and group-based training, complete with an indoor turf space for functional fitness

Rehabilitation/Wellbeing Studio

A completely private space equipped to the highest standard for private training, rehabilitation, sports therapy and consulting

Performance Studio

Private specialist studio packed with sports science technology for endurance performance training, testing and consulting including Hypoxico Altitude Generator, Lactate Threshold Testing, Biomechanics Analysis Equipment, Power Testing tools and more

Ryan Spencer MSc

Owner, Director of Performance & Rehabilitation

Ryan founded Pyramid Performance & Health in January 2017, following extensive experience working in professional sport ranging from Sports Science Support at Leeds United FC to more recent work in the United States with professional athletes from the NFL, NBA, MLS, and IRONMAN Sports Medicine Institute. Having developed innovative strength & conditioning programmes, sport-specific biomechanical movement analyses, performance testing protocols, and unique injury rehabilitation models alongside some of the USA’s leading physios, Ryan wanted to provide this and more to athletes and active people of all abilities in the UK.

Holding two degrees including a Masters in Sport & Exercise Biomechanics, with an innovative approach to human performance, Ryan is a leader in the field of applied sport science in the East Midlands. Ryan offers performance consulting, strength & conditioning, advanced injury rehabilitation, and performance testing services.

Harry Hodgson MSc

Sports Therapist, Rehab Specialist

Harry is a highly skilled and experienced Sports Therapist with a particular interest in holistic rehabilitation, incorporating manual therapy, exercise therapy, physical conditioning and sports massage to achieve long-term positive outcomes for clients. Harry holds both Masters and Bachelor’s degrees in Sport & Exercise Therapy from York St John University.

A keen sportsman himself, Harry has worked with many professional athletes including previous roles with Doncaster Rovers FC and York City Knights RLFC, with work focused on the treatment and maintenance of player health, incorporating sports massage, strength training and reconditioning. Outside professional sport, Harry has worked closely with individuals from a variety of backgrounds in a broad range of settings to optimise human performance and health.

Harry plays rugby union competitively, and enjoys and all sports. He’s a keen advocate for living a healthy balanced lifestyle, and takes a particular interest in the role of nutrition for wellbeing.

Harry offers injury rehabilitation programmes, personal training and sports massage/therapy treatments.

Tom Whitaker MSc

Strength & Conditioning Coach, Personal Trainer

Tom holds a Masters degree in Strength and Conditioning from the University of Salford, and a BSc(Hons) degree in Strength, Conditioning and Rehabilitation from the University of Derby. He has a significant experience in both research and coaching settings, applying his theoretical knowledge to practical situations with a wide range of population groups including sportspeople, novices looking to lose weight, fitness enthusiasts and many more. Tom’s previous experience includes spells as a Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Leicester Tigers DPP program in Chesterfield and the University of Derby Women’s Football Club. Tom is a passionate and highly skilled coach with an ability to communicate well with all ages and ability levels.

Outside of his strength and conditioning work, Tom is a 2nd Dan Black Belt in Lai-Ga-Sau Kung Fu, and has played multiple sports recreationally over the years. Tom takes a very logical approach to training, focussing on quality over quantity to ensure you get the most out of every session. 

Tom offers performance training, general fitness and weight-loss, training for those with specific health needs, weightlifting and more. 

Sam Barrows MSc, SENr

Performance Nutritionist

Alongside his consultancy work at Pyramid, Sam also currently holds the position of Performance Nutritionist at Derby County FC.

Sam first developed an interest in nutrition by wanting to improve his own sporting performance. This led him to pursue a career in performance nutrition by completing a Sports Science degree and a Masters degree in Sports Nutrition. He also holds Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register Accreditation, International Society of Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK) accreditation, and is a UK Anti-Doping Advisor.

Sam has supported elite and amateur athletes, everyday gym goers and individuals who just want to improve their health and body composition. To date, Sam has worked with athletes from a wide range of sports including motorsport, football, rugby, triathlon, cricket, tennis, weightlifting and combat sports.

Using a food-first approach Sam is passionate about and strongly believes in a scientifically informed and evidence-based approach when working with all clients. Translating often complex scientific research and implementing it in a sustainable and practical manner, while helping people become the best version of themselves is of primary importance to Sam. Sam offers individual nutrition consulting, group education and performance nutrition packages for all ages and abilities.

Nina Thomas MSc, ANutr

Nutritionist

Nina is a fully trained and Registered Nutritionist, completing her professional training to become a member of the Association for Nutrition. Registered Nutritionists are competent , qualified nutrition professionals who meet the rigorous applied standards for scientifically sound evidence-based nutrition and its use in practice.

A passion for science, food and nutrition led Nina to Kings College, London to study Food Science. Having developed food and drink ranges for major retailers her career has allowed her to travel the world researching food trends and cuisines and focus on providing healthy eating for consumers. Following a Masters in Nutritional Sciences she became a Registered Associate Nutritionist (ANutr). As well as keeping fully up-to-date, a Registered Nutritionist only gives advice on evidence-based scientific research. It’s the same kind of science used by our NHS and Public Health England to define nutrition policy.
